The town of Garstang is an ancient market town that can cater for your every need whilst you enjoy its historic beauty.

It boasts three supermarkets, highly sought after schools, local train stations and top-class medical and dental practices.

Garstang has a local golf course, a marina and numerous sports clubs, including Garstang Cricket Club and non-league football club Garstang FC.

The town also has seven public houses, so you won’t be short of options when it comes to winding down over a drink or good old Lancastrian pub fayre. The picturesque town centre is also home to some exceptional restaurants offering a variety of cuisines alongside some attractive wine bars and cafés. It’s fair to say that Garstang has upscale hospitality covered.

When it comes to days out with the family, Garstang has a lot to offer. Perhaps the most revered attraction is Brook Bottom. Just a 15-minute drive from Riverside Walk on the very western edge of the Forest of Bowland sits this idyllic picnic spot and nature trail. The river that winds through the area is very shallow and perfect for padding. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, there are some well-publicised long walking routes for you to take on too.

Another must-visit is Garstang Arts Centre. Set in a stunning 1700s old grammar school building in the very heart of Garstang, the venue houses local arts of all types and is home to Garstang and District Arts Society. The centre hosts plenty of regular events, so be sure to check out what they have on. The craft and collectors fairs and monthly exhibitions are particularly popular.

If you’re an animal lover or appreciate farm life, you need to pencil in a visit to Humblescough Farm. This working family farm offers beautiful views of the Bowland Fells. At the farm you can see the sheep, hens and ducks whilst enjoying this perfect countryside retreat that welcomes a range of campers. Perfect if you want a little staycation with a difference. Humblescough also hosts farm activity days, woodland activity days, kids parties and corporate days.

After all that adventure you will be pleased to know that there’s Acresfield Health Club & Spa close by, so you can soothe any aching limbs, relax and revitalise. Why not spend the day there and treat yourself to a luxury spa treatment too? If outdoor activities aren’t your thing, there’s a state of the art gym at Acresfield so you can hit your fitness goals in its luxurious surroundings.

The opportunities for days out are endless with so many outstanding locations a short distance away. Areas including The Lake District, the west Lancashire coast, and larger cities, such as Liverpool and Manchester, are all within a reasonable distance.

Visit the coast and enjoy those glorious golden summer days at resorts such as bustling Blackpool or the lovely Lytham St Annes. There’s so much to do for all the family along this gorgeous strip of coastland. If you’re a golf enthusiast you will be particularly spoiled, with world-renowned courses such as Royal Birkdale, Royal Lytham & St Annes and Hoylake all occupying the magnificent west coast linksland.

Slightly closer to home, Preston is the closest city and it has everything that you could want, including attractions such as Ninja Adventure, Odeon Cinema, Ribble Steam Railway and Preston North End Football Club. Of course, being a city, it also has a bustling high street and shopping centres so you can get your retail therapy fix when you need it.

Preston is the administrative centre of the county of Lancashire, the seat of Lancashire County Council, and it houses the main campus of the University of Central Lancashire.

If you’re travelling up and down the country often for work or leisure, Preston has a large national railway station. From there Avanti West Coast can get you down to London in approximately two hours or up to Glasgow in two and a half hours
